You Must be Visible to Prosper in Business

Must be Visible to Prosper in Business

Have you noticed your bank account or your client list is not growing? Or worse – it's shrinking? Worried about it?

If people don’t know about you or can’t find you, they won’t have the chance to become one of your raving fans or enthusiastic clients.

You must be visible to prosper in business!

Too many entrepreneurs have fallen prey to the Field of Dreams mantra ‘if you build it, they will come.’ You can build all types of solutions that will help people, but you have to be discovered before you can have a thriving business and consistent revenue.

You need to go where your customers already are and not wait for them to show up.

When you have a heart-based transformational business, the most effective (and fastest) way to create that needed visibility is through speaking engagements, radio shows or podcasts and virtual summits.

When you provide processes, steps, products or resources to improve people’s personal or professional lives, you need to show up in places where people will connect with you.

Often leaders dislike, resist, or fail to find time to book speaking opportunities. With a simple system, and by becoming your own best advocate, you’ll discover the joys of regular public appearances.

Here are some tips to get the ball rolling:

Speaking Engagements

Getting in front of an audience is as simple as looking in your own neighborhood. It takes some legwork, but you’ll reap the benefits of public speaking.

Step 1 – Commit the time needed to locate and pitch bookers.

Schedule at least three hours a week on your calendar just for this step. Remember, if you can’t do the time, you can’t earn the dime!

Step 2 – Identify a minimum of three different topics you can speak about.

They can be entirely different subjects or variations of the same tops for different audiences. Your goal is to make it easier for the booker to say yes because you gave them some flexibility.

Step 3 – Brush up on your presentation skills.

There are three main options to bolster your speaking skills:

  • Test your signature presentation on local, small audiences. You can refine your signature talk in a small arena.
  • Join a local Toastmasters chapter. Get great support and stretch yourself in a welcoming environment.
  • Connect with a speaker training. A fantastic list of trainings can be found at Speakertunity.com/resources.

Step 4 – Create a stellar Speaker One-Sheet.

This document encapsulates what you do and why you would be great for a speaker booker’s audience. It includes your profile, photo, testimonials, and brief descriptions of your presentations.

Step 5 – Get out into the world!

There are few ways to do this:

Some obvious ways to make yourself available is through friends and clients. Ask if they belong to (or are aware of) any organizations that might like to have you present.

Check out nearby chambers of commerce, women’s groups, service organizations, centers of spirituality, and networking groups.

If your friends aren’t sure, finding venues is as simple as conducting a Google search. Just type in the organization + your city.

For opportunities to speak at conferences, look in your industry or Google it. You can even check out a website called Events in America.

Finally, look into events, whether that is to create your own, partner up with another leader and host a joint event, or negotiate with hosts of existing events.

You could get free stage time, pay for it, or split the revenue. You might even be able to stage swap – that is, you each speak on the other’s stage.

Radio Shows and Podcasts

Today’s world offers you almost infinite chances to get your message out to the right people.

Just look at internet radio and podcasts. Both provide laser-focused audiences that are interested in the host’s subject matter making it easier for you to hone in on your target market with your message.

To reach out to the host or producer, you need to create a fantastic one to one-and-a-half page pitch letter making your speech sound irresistible.

It needs to list out how you can impact their audience with the solutions you bring, such as helping their audience change, heal, or move forward in life.

To find these opportunities:

  • Conduct an online search for radio stations and local shows in your market. Look for the name of the producer. If you don’t find it, pick up the phone and call the station.
  • In the instance of internet radio, search by subject matter or explore specific radio networks. Many are genre specific, like health or business. Others have a variety of channels you can search and find the right show for your topic.
  • Podcasts can be the easiest. Just access iTunes or iHeartRadio and locate the show in your genre by subject matter. Most list a link to their website. Head over to their site and contact the producer via email or online form. Podcast channel suggestions may also pop-up in your email inbox or on your social media – another source to utilize.

Virtual Summits

A very successful way to get in front of the people you want to help is through virtual summits.

Whether on the phone or online, they help you build your opt-in list, get new customers or clients, drive people to your program, and can even turn into joint venture partnerships.

Generally, these events are produced by a host that has brought together a group of experts covering a subject matter. The subject is so enticing many people hurry to sign up with their name and email address to access the interviews. All presenters co-promote the summit to their own email list via social media.

Getting on a “summit circuit” requires a little planning but is worth it. First, find those hosts that will resonate with your topic. Then, you will need an excellent, free online lead-generation offer. Also, you have to be willing to co-promote the event.

Many hosts conduct an event once or twice a year and book guest presenters quickly. Be on the lookout for presenters that show up in your inbox and reach out as soon as possible. Reach out to your friends and associates to let them know you're looking to present on a summit. You never know where the connection may come from.
