When you want a visitor to your site to do a specific action, you build a landing page. Its sole purpose is to either have people sign-up for your email list or to make a purchase from you. Nothing more, nothing less.

Here are the 5 essential elements for a high converting landing page. Be sure to include each of them:

The Headline

The headline draws readers in and entices them to learn more about your business and what you are offering. There are several ways to write a headline: ask a question, create a list, or make a bold statement. For example:

  • Are You Prepared for a Major Financial Disaster?
  • 5 Ways to Spend Zero Dollars on Your Next Vacation
  • Secrets Your Fitness Trainer Doesn’t Want You to Know

The Body

After the headline, your visitor should want to continue reading. So, don’t throw everything out there like you might on a blog post. Keep the suspense churning for your reader, so they will continue to click through, or scroll down, to the next step.

You do this by connecting with your reader through the content. Reveal to them that you understand their needs and you have a solution. Empathize with them. Build trust.

The Call to Action

After engaging with your visitor and building some trust, make your offer and be direct. A strong call to action tells your reader what their next steps are and what the payoff is. If you are trying to get them to sign up for your newsletter, say something like “Sign Up Now and Download Your Free Workbook.”

The Form

After you make the call to action, it’s time to present the form that allows them to sign up for your newsletter or make their purchase. Adding the form may require knowing a little bit of coding language, or it might be part of a content management system you already use.

It’s imperative that you test the form on a variety of devices to ensure no page links are broken. A broken link leads to a lost sale or subscriber and lost hard work.

The Guarantee

Guarantees are a way to boost conversion rates. People feel they have nothing to lose when you make a promise. Depending on the purpose of the landing page, you may want to:

  • Promise never to spam or sell their email address when trying to get new subscribers to your email list.
  • Provide a money-back guarantee when they purchase your product, so they can determine if it is a good fit.

Offering a guarantee is not mandatory, but it does show goodwill and is a good industry practice.

Keep it Simple

One last item to remember for your landing page sales copy: keep it clean and simple. Don’t distract your reader with navigation options to your blog or social media. They are there for one action only – either accept or decline your offer. So, keep their focus on the goal.
