The importance of creating a marketing plan, or as I call it a “Marketing Mix”, that works for you and your business cannot be understated. Yet, you might still be a little skeptical.

I’m going to share with you how the outright power of marketing sky-rocketed my business from $80K a year to $1 million in sales over the last 4.5 years.

My Offline Marketing Channels

1. Speaking

Speaking is intimidating. Like many, I had to fight feelings of fear and dread when I decided to start speaking. I asked myself questions like: “Who am I to speak to others? What if they don’t like me?”

After I squelched those natural thoughts, I dove right in and discovered two things: instant rush and instant results. When you use the speaking platform, you are an authority with instant credibility.

It doesn’t take long for the audience to know, like, and trust you by the time you exit the stage.

Action step: Put out feelers to speak, even if it is pro-bono or you have to pay to speak. It’s worth the investment. Talk with other speakers and learn what works for them.

2. Networking

Going to live events and meeting new contacts has kept me linked to the people I want to reach and serve. I learn what they are struggling with and how I can help. Additionally, I’m able to notice business trends and gather inspiration.

Action step: Investigate networking events near you, determine how many you want to attend over the next 3 months, mark your calendar, and have your business cards handy!

3. Sponsoring

I can’t emphasis the impact sponsoring has had on the growth of my business. I’ve built tight relationships with event hosts, been introduced to new people, and stayed relevant with my own business offers and brand.

Action step: Determine an event sponsorship that matches your business and contact 3 people who are well-suited.

4. Podcasting

Through podcasting, I consistently build a following, situate myself as an authority, and instill my business in the minds of future clients. Podcasting also stretches me to create topics for discussion that serves my market.

Not only that, I’ve created partnerships with my podcast guests.

Action step: Listen to one podcast. You can listen to mine at http://thebravepodcast.com. Learn what you need to do to start your own podcast. Outline various topics you will examine. Determine additional money-making strategies you’ll need while you're building your audience.

5. Webinars

I love the opportunity to not only present valuable information but to also engage with my market while doing a webinar. And it’s all live! Webinars create that remarkable chance to get to know the needs of my audience and prove to them that I provide value to them and their businesses. Not only can I present targeted information on a webinar, I can also present needed offers for purchase.

Action step: Research different webinar hosting services, pick one, and sign up! I strongly recommend signing up for other people’s webinars and checking out what they do and various formats so you can figure out what’s best for you and your unique needs and personality. Find out from your target market what they most want to learn right now, and host a webinar on that. (Think about getting a virtual assistant on hand for technical support and details, too.)

6. Email Marketing

Don’t discount the value of your email list. It is a gold mine of warm leads for purchasing your products and services. I keep mine up-to-date on events and special offers. Each email I send brings them closer and keeps me in the forefront when they’re ready to employ my services.

Action step: Capture emails when people visit your site, and then engage with them! If you don’t have an email capture system on your website, investigate options like MailChimp, InfusionSoft, and others.

7. Social Media Engagement

Social media has opened the doors to a whole world of new people to engage with as I share tips, updates, and even offers. Using social media has led to people opting into my email list, attending one of my events, and even reaching out to work directly with me. For those who haven’t done the above, I know that I’m in their minds.

Action step: Select a social media platform, or pick two, and engage with the market with content. Consider using an aggregate service, such as Hootsuite or Coschedule, to streamline and automate your content posting ahead of time. The key to remember is to provide value, not just promotion.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY

It’s easy to focus on the task-at-hand and ignore the importance of marketing when you first start out. When I determined to focus on my Marketing Mix, I saw results.

All it takes is that first leap into your own Marketing Mix, and you’ll see what you’ve been missing.
